Ramanand Sagar's Shree Krishna is a popular Indian television series based on the stories of the life of Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Vishnu. The series was originally broadcast weekly on Doordarshan's Metro Channel from 1993 to 1996, and later on DD National. The series consists of 221 episodes, each about 45 minutes long. The series is based on various scriptures such as Garga Samhita, Padma Purana, Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Agni Purana, Harivamsa Purana, Mahabharata, Bhagavata Purana, Bhagavad Gita, etc. The screenplay, script and poetry of the series were written by Ramanand Sagar himself, with the help of Dr. Vishnu Virat, the head of the Hindi department of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.

The series covers the entire life of Krishna, from his birth in Mathura to his death in Dwarka. It depicts his childhood and youth in Vrindavan and Gokul, his friendship with Sudama, his love for Radha, his role in the Kurukshetra War as the charioteer and advisor of Arjuna, his teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, his miracles and divine leelas, his marriages and family life, his interactions with various sages and kings, and his final departure from the world.

One of the most important and influential parts of the series is the Bhagavad Gita, which is a dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The Bhagavad Gita is considered to be one of the most sacred and profound texts of Hinduism, as it contains the essence of Vedanta philosophy and spiritual wisdom. The Bhagavad Gita covers various topics such as karma yoga, bhakti yoga, jnana yoga, dharma, moksha, reincarnation, etc. The Bhagavad Gita is divided into 18 chapters and 700 verses.

The series presents the Bhagavad Gita in a very detailed and dramatic way, with vivid visuals and background music. The Bhagavad Gita episodes start from episode 148 and end at episode 159. The episodes are as follows:

  • Episode 148 - Shree Krishna gives Arjuna a brief introduction to the Bhagavad Gita.

  • Episode 149 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about the nature of the self (atma), the supreme self (paramatma), and the difference between them.

  • Episode 150 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about the control of the senses and the mind.

  • Episode 151 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about karma yoga, or the path of action.

  • Episode 152 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about the definition of happiness and misery.

  • Episode 153 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about sthita prajna, or the state of steady wisdom.

  • Episode 154 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about karma and jnana, or action and knowledge.

  • Episode 155 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna that not killing the unrighteous is also unrighteous.

  • Episode 156 - Shree Krishna shows Arjuna his universal form (virat rupa), which encompasses all creation.

  • Episode 157 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about bhakti yoga, or the path of devotion.

  • Episode 158 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about the three modes of nature (guna), namely sattva (goodness), rajas (passion), and tamas (ignorance).

  • Episode 159 - Shree Krishna teaches Arjuna about moksha, or liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

The Bhagavad Gita episodes are very popular among the viewers, as they provide a deep insight into the teachings of Krishna and the essence of Hinduism. The episodes are also very inspiring and motivational, as they encourage the viewers to follow the path of righteousness, duty, and devotion. The episodes are also very relevant and applicable to the modern times, as they deal with the problems and challenges faced by humanity in the present age.
